Byron Kennard Alston, PharmD, MHA, BCPS, DPLA, is a Doctor of Pharmacy and healthcare administrator with extensive experience in acute care hospital and health system pharmacy practice. He currently serves in a director-level pharmacy leadership role within a health system, with responsibility for medication-use systems, pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, and medication safety initiatives across inpatient care settings.Dr. Alston provides objective clinical and systems-level analysis related to hospital pharmacy practice in professional liability and healthcare litigation matters.
Dr. Alston completed PGY1 pharmacy residency training and is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS). He holds a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree and is a graduate of the ASHP Diplomate of Pharmacy Leadership Academy (DPLA). He is Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified and has led clinical, operational, and safety initiatives within acute care hospital and health system environments.His experience includes oversight of high-risk medication processes, controlled substance management and diversion prevention, pharmacy automation and informatics, medication safety event analysis, policy development, and regulatory readiness related to Joint Commission, CMS, DEA, and state requirements.
